Ahead of Rangers tie against Ayr United in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup in midweek, plenty of fans had called on manager Steven Gerrard to give starlet Glenn Middleton the start in the game and to save waxing too lyrical – he didn’t let anyone down.

The 18-year-old was electric in the match and it has to be remembered that it was his maiden competitive start for the club, so to top that off with two goals and an assist – he was guaranteed the Man of the Match award.
Rangers fans weren’t just delighted with his performance on the pitch though, the players was obviously interviewed following the fulltime whistle and he was equally as impressive in front of the camera given the high he must have been on given his own performance in the game.

What a player he will be for Rangers. Speaks extremely well for an 18 year old. Love the guy

We’re only going to see more of him in the future and the only concern any fan should have is that at some point, if he keeps developing like this, it doesn’t matter how well Rangers are doing back in the top-flight others will lure him – or at least try to.
