Image for Hutton reveals thinking on Goldson decision after speaking to him directly

Connor Goldson has not necessarily decided to leave Rangers, according to quotes from former Ibrox man Alan Hutton.

In what is arguably the single most important piece of signing business that will need to be conducted by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson this Summer, we are no clearer right now on the final outcome. Indications appear to suggest that the towering central defender will be heading back south to England and if that is the case, a substantial quality replacement would be required.

One thing is for sure, with his contract expiring next week, we are now at the end game stage in terms of what happens next.

However, speaking to Football Insider, Allan Hutton stated that there is a willingness for the former Brighton man to stay at Ibrox, alluding to the details in the contract being the sticking point and that a resolution could still be found:

“It’s one of those ones where he probably wants to stay at the club. After speaking to him a few times myself, I know that he loves being there and he wants to be there in the future.”

“But you have to reward these players for what they’ve given the club over the last X amount of seasons. I think that’s the sticking point at this moment in time.”

Impasse

For all that Goldson has given Rangers over four seasons, there can be no doubt as to his status in the current squad.

That should be reflected in terms of wages and reward so it seems very unlikely that the club would be low balling the 29-year old to the point that he feels signing new terms would be selling himself short. Weighed against that is the lure and pull of family to return south, as well as the riches of a contract as a free agent that would await him, even in the top bracket of the Championship.

At his age now, this will be the last (and most) lucrative contract of his career so of course he has to maximise the opportunity for himself and his family, no one can blame him for that.

Bottom line is, for Rangers, we need the situation dealt with as soon as possible, whether Goldson stays or goes.

No harm to the big fella , but i have NEVER rated the guy , As far from an imposing CH as you can get , constantly leads with his wrong foot , has the rebound time of a giraffe and God knows how often i have seen him flip over as though he has been fouled WHILST PLAY IS STILL ON GOING ? , and it HAS cost us . Rangers have at the moment got the best squad in living memory imo….EXCEPT for CG. I would drive the guy South myself , as he is the weakest part of Rangers . Even at the hearts game he is like treacle before that ball is flashed across goal , what does he do ?…stretches his arms out and looks at Tav .Please Rangers ….SELL HIM or even Gie him away .
