Another day, another day Rangers are linked with a midfielder.
This time, previous “target” Gustavo Hamer of Coventry City, who Rangers News claim was rubbished by the club as being of any interest, however, this time there is greater detail in the speculation which adds a little more smoke to the fire, Vital Rangers reporting on a potential link just a few days ago.
According to EFL Hub, a fee of £4million would seal the deal with the Championship side however, recently relegated West Brom are also said to have “made contact”:
“Rangers are progressing in positive talks with Coventry City over the signing of midfielder Gustavo Hamer, which could see the deal wrapped up for a sum of £4 million. West Brom have also made contact with the Sky Blues over his availability this summer.”
Reading some of the comments from Coventry fans on Twitter, it would appear that £4m could be a bargain, with many claiming that twice that fee would be closer to his real valuation.
Absolutely, it’s 50% short of the minimum

Oh no not at that price. I would say around 6m

In a World where absolute garbage is going for £15mil+, £4mil still wouldn’t surprise me with this club. Other clubs know we will bend over. No less than £7mil for me. One of the brightest talents in the league. #PUSB https://t.co/pDJwmozklb

No where near enough. £5mil+

The 23-year old Dutch youth cap came through the ranks of the Feyenoord academy and has established himself as a defensive midfielder of some repute, barely missing a minute since signing for Coventry last summer from PEC Zwolle for £1.35m.
Vital Rangers Goal of the Season
Defoe v Livingston
Roofe v Standard Liege
Jack v Kilmarnock
Tavernier v Dundee United
There is no doubt that quality additions will be made to the Rangers midfield, on who and how much gets spent will surely depend on any departures but as we’ve seen with the likes of Calvin Bassey, Cedric Itten and Jack Simpson, there is a long-term plan in place that sees players gradually being introduced to the first team rather than being expected to contribute straight away.
The fee being quoted is a lot of money, but, as we’ve seen with the likes of Ianis Hagi, a good season in Europe can be enough to more than double a player’s valuation – if they produce the goods.
