Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer is reportedly been tracked by Rangers, but CoventryLive insist that no move is imminent.

The local source, close to the club, claim that several clubs are interested and have been known to have scouted the player but no contact has been made with Coventry.

Hamer put in a bright display against Rangers last year – from that point it is believed that he has been tracked by Steven Gerrard’s recruitment team.

Despite recent online specualtion, CoventryLive have delivered what they see as a definite update on the situation and the stance of the club, managed by Mark Robins.

Their report stated:

‘Will he be a wanted man this summer? Almost certainly, and there may well be plenty of truth in the rumours that he’s on the list of a number of higher placed clubs.’

‘The strongest link appears to be from the Baggies, while Rangers, who will have first been alerted to his quality during the pre-season friendly at Ibrox last summer, have sent scouts to St Andrew’s on numerous occasions throughout the season.’

‘As with all players, the Sky Blues will consider significant offers for any of their personnel.’

‘But just a season into his three-year deal, it will take a substantial offer that the club could not refuse to prise Hamer away.’

Asset

The same outlet claim that it will take a fee in the region of £4-5 million to prise the Brazilian-born Dutch youth cap away from the Warwickshire club.

He is considered as ‘City’s hottest playing property and most saleable asset.’

Many players will be on Rangers shortlist and several more names will be linked between now and the Summer.

In midfield, there will be additions – it is a signifcant area that Rangers need to add quality to in order to reach the next level.

As for Hamer, West Brom, Norwich and Brighton have also been linked.

Given his contract still has two full years left to run, Coventry City are in a position of relative strength over their asset.
