Rangers have confirmed the sale of central defender Jack Simpson to Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

Now 25, the Englishman has to go and play for the sake of his career and will find more chances to do that with the Bluebirds in the Championship, at a club where he should be more comfortable.

Having made the move to Rangers from Bournemouth in the Winter of 2021, Simpson never really adapted on the pitch, nor looked convincing in the handful of times that he was given a start.

He did play a bit part as a squad member in the Premiership title winning side of ’21 under Steven Gerrard and for that will return back to play in England (as Wales) with some fond memories. He was also involved on the infamous night against Slavia Prague when Glen Kamara was racially abused, having come on to the pitch as a late sub.

Simpson told Cardiff’s official website:

“I’m very excited to join the Club. I spoke to the manager about what he’s trying to do here. I’m a ball playing centre half, and hopefully that’ll suit the way the team are playing now.”

“I’m excited to be here. I want to help the team and play in as many games as possible.”

This is definitely a positive move for both parties – Rangers and the player who can hopefully now kick on in Cardiff. His departure at Ibrox follows that of Glenn Middleton who has already made a Euro impact with Dundee United and now moves will loom for Niko Katic and Stephen Kelly as the squad is trimmed further.
