Transfer silly season is a well known phrase and that is the category for the story linking Alfredo Morelos with a move to Mexico.

It has been said that Liga MX side Cruz Azul are interested in the Colombian international and who could blame them? It’s great to have aspirations but some are more realistic than others.

The common denominator in this story is the link provided by one-time Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha who was in situ back in the Summer of 2017 when Morelos made the move from HJK Helsinki.

Other than that, it is difficult to see genuine interest from both the buying club and the player to make such a move happen for very different reasons, but this Mexican report stated:

“The name of the Colombian player Alfredo Morelos, who played with Rangers in Scotland, and was managed by an old acquaintance of La Máquina in Pedro Caixinha, has rung out once again online, and the cafetalero has just scored on his return to the Scottish team after not playing since April due to thigh surgery, reviving the idea that there is still interest as there was in 2019 for the 26-year-old.”

His contract remains a priority for the club and an intriguing situation to follow given that he will be into pre-contract territory in just over three months time. The turn of the new year would mean he could agree a Bosman deal with a new club, if there are no developments on an extended stay at Ibrox.

It was great to see The Buffalo return with a goal on Saturday and his message to the fans and public on social media was:

“It is very gratifying for me to return to the fields after four months of recovery to have the blessing of returning with a goal, it is very satisfying… I will continue to be strong and advance more every day from the hand of God.”
