Rangers have secured the services of Falkirk striker Alan Gow. The striker signed a pre-contract agreement and will arrive at Ibrox in the summer.

Walter Smith tried to sign the 24 year old before the transfer window slammed shut on Wednesday night, but he couldn’t complete the deal and instead opted to bring him in in the summer.

The striker has agreed to a three year deal at Ibrox and will give Walter Smith options up front, and more importantly, another Scottish player has been added to the growing list of homegrown players in Walter’s squad.

Smith is rebuilding his squad and clearly wants to build a solid base of Scottish players. He is obviously in a good position as has great knowledge of the Scottish game from his time as International manager.

This can only be a benefit to the club, and hopefully it will spell the end for some of the underachieving foreign importnas. That’s not to say that some foreign players can’t come in and do a good job, but Walter will be more careful before splashing the cash on imports.

If he can unearth a few more Dado Prso’s then he’ll be sure to bring them in, but for now he seems to be concentrating on brining in the best Scotland has to offer.

Alan Gow will join an already strong squad of Scottish players at the squad, including new signing Kevin Thomson, Allan McGregor, Steven Smith, Ian Murray, Alan Hutton, David Weir, Andy Webster, Charlie Adam, Chris Burke, Barry Ferguson and Kris Boyd.

Smith also hopes to bring in Scott Brown from Hibernian in the summer. He was keen to bring him in before the transfer window shut but didn’t have the funds.

Alan Gow was delighted with the move and told the club website: I’m pleased to sign a pre-contract with Rangers.

‘However, I’m fully committed to playing for Falkirk between now and the end of the season.’
