Motherwell striker Scott McDonald is still a target for Rangers boss Walter Smith.

Smith tried to sign the Motherwell striker, and cult Rangers hero, during the tranfer window but failed in his attempts. Motherwell rejected the offer made by the Ibrox club.

McDonald was gutted to miss out on his big move, but all is not lost for the Aussie. Walter Smith revealed on Rangers World that anyone who was a target during the transfer window would still be a target in the summer.

Smith tried to add McDonald to his list of January transfers which included Andy Webster, David Weir, Ugo Ehiogu and Kevin Thomson.

Skippy is a Rangers fans hero, despite the fact he has never played for the club. His two goals against Celtic on the last day of the 2004/05 season effectively won the league for Rangers that day.

The signing of McDonald would certainly be a popular one among the Rangers fans. Not only is he a hero, he’s actually a really good striker and has been on form for the Lanarkshire team despite their poor form this season.

McDonald started his career with Southampton as a trainee before moving on to Huddersfield and Bournemouth on loan. He then moved to MK Dons.

He never really enjoyed any great success and was unheard of when Motherwell brought him to Fir Park in January 2004. But he has done well for himself there and has put himself in the spotlight.
