Connor Goldson is a shock omission from the PFA Scotland Premiership player of the year award shortlist.

The news broke earlier today as the line-up was revealed with his Ibrox teammates completing a clean sweep of the nominations.

This particular award is coveted due to the fact that the casting votes for the shortlist and the overall winner are determined solely by fellow players – PFA Scotland members.

As can be seen below, the nominees are Steven Davis, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and James Tavernier.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Football Writers Association shortlisted Davis, McGregor, Tavernier as well as  Connor Goldson for their award.

With the PFA prize, could it be that more players have been impacted by the dazzling skills of Kent? That McGregor has claimed more headlines due to his heroics and Captain Tav simply stands out for his marauding style and attacking impact?

Connor Goldson, an everpresent for the Gers, has quietly gone about his business with consistency and quality keeping the back door shut far more often than not.

Defenders can often get less credit than is deserved.

On this occasion, perhaps he was just pipped to the post by one of his Ibrox peers.

With both award definitely going to one of his players, Steven Gerrard will have a definite sense of satisfaction, another by-product of Premiership domination this season for the champions.
