At the press conference today, ahead of the Livingston game tomorrow evening, manager Steven Gerrard stressed that he won’t be rushing Ryan Jack as he charts his way back to full fitness.

Following successful surgery, the Ibrox workhorse is now on the rehab path with a rough timescale of 12 weeks before he can be back in the first team picture.

That was the rough prognosis set out by Gerrard, who was adamant that the process will need to be handled with care and due consideration to Jack’s condition so that he has the best possible chance of a full recovery:

“Ryan has had successful surgery.”

“We spoke with the surgeon after the operation and he was really happy with how it went.”

“He’ll start his rehab now and hopefully we’ll have him back some time in pre-season.”

“Will he be fit for the Champions League qualifiers? I think it’s too early to say that.”

With Jack missing the last few months of the season as well as the upcomng European Championships, this recovery is of the utmost significance.

That is not lost on Gerrard, who was pragmatic in his thoughts on what lies ahead for his player.

No Rush

The Ibrox boss continued:

“You’re looking at something like a three month rehab from surgery – that’s assuming everything goes according to plan.”

“It is too early to put a game or a date target on that.”

“If he could be available for the qualifiers that would be fantastic for everyone at the club, but one thing for sure is we won’t be rushing it.”

“It’s the type of surgery where you can’t afford to rush it – you’ve got to let it take its course.”

“I know Jacko will be pushing to get back as quick as he can but we’ll be guided by the medical advice.”

“The key for me is not to put a time on it and get Ryan Jack in the best possible shape so he can repeat games – because if he does he makes my team and squad a lot stronger, that’s for sure.”

A fit again Ryan Jack gives that ‘new player’ bounce after an extended absence.

Whether that can happen in time for the Champions League qualifiers remains to be seen.

Adding to the bans of Kemar Roofe, Glen Kamara and Leon Balogun, there are other factors at play which will have a direct impact on the Summer transfer window for Rangers.
