If Rangers need to replace Alfredo Morelos in the summer then a trip to a familiar shopping market could see the Light Blues pick up a prolific bargain.
Georgios Giakoumakis is a 26-year old Greece international and is currently ripping up the Eredivisie for lowly VVV-Venlo, scoring 27 goals in 28 appearances this season.
Currently valued at £2.25million, Giakoumakis has been in sensational form after making the move to Holland from AEK Athens in the summer of 2020, getting regular first team football has seen him become one of the leading marksmen across Europe’s second tier where, in comparison with other strikers in Scotland, Turkey, Austria and Belgium he is one of the leading players in goals per 90 mins and expected goals per 90.

If statistics aren’t for you then it’s pretty to clear to see what the Greek international – who stands at over 6ft tall – is good at, putting the ball in the back of the net, his build up play might not be as good as Morelos’s, nor his creativity, however, in the SPFL he could be exactly the type of player we need to cope with the physicality of the Scottish game with others around him creating the chances.
Giakoumakis wouldn’t have much sell on value if we were to sign him on a four year deal but, if we make what we should on Morelos he is more than worth a punt, however, there is no reason why if he had a good couple of seasons with Rangers, and in particular, if we are in the Champions League, we still couldn’t turn a decent profit.
