Vital Rangers was saddened to hear the news that Rangers legend Brian Laudrup has been diagnosed with cancer, and would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery.

The Rangers legend also known as ‘God’ has a form of lymphoma – a cancer of the immune system but doctors have caught it early which gives him an excellent chance of having a full recovery.

Laudrup, who is in my opinion the greatest ever Ranger, certainly in my time anyway said: ‘Fortunately, I have had very optimistic reports from doctors, in my favour, and I intend therefore to continue to as a commentator for TV3’s Champions League coverage.’

The super Dane signed for Rangers in 1994 from Fiorentina and was a huge success before moving to Chelsea in 1998. He had earlier played for Brondby, Bayer Uerdingen and Bayern Munich. He also spent a season on loan to AC Milan before moving to Rangers.

One of the memories that sticks in my mind was when he was being interviewed by the legendary Jim White when Jim asked him: ‘Brian… why are you so good?’ After Chelsea, Laudrup moved on to Copenhagen before winding up his career with Ajax.

He will also be fondly remembered by every Rangers fan and is part of the famous nine in a row Rangers team. He scored the goal which sealed nine in a row against Dundee United at Tannadice after ironically heading in from a Charlie Miller cross. Ironic because usually it was him who would supply the crosses for someone else to head in.

Brian, you gave us all so many happy memories, please get well soon, all our thoughts are with you.
