A VERY VERY belated match report from Rangers’ last game against St Johnstone at Ibrox on 28th August. Sorry folks.

Rangers went into their second home game of the season hoping to maintain their 100% record. Everyone was expecting an easy victory but it would turn out to be very far from it after Rangers had to come from behind to win all three points.

Walter Smith went with a familiar looking defence with McGregor in goals and a back four of Papac, Bougherra, Weir and Whittaker. Lee McCulloch made his first appearance of the season after sitting it out through suspension, and guess what? He got booked again!

There was also a home debut for on loan Manchester City star Vladimir Weiss. The rest of the midfield was made up of Steven Davis and Steven Naismith. Maurice Edu was the one to drop out with McCulloch coming back into the team. Miller and Beattie again started up front with new signing Nikica Jelavic on the bench.

St Johnstone took a shock lead in the 25th minute after a stunning long range effort from Danny Grainger who had been set up by former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris. It was a shcoking start for Rangers but they were back on level terms eight minutes later with a scrappy goal scored by Sasa Papac. The Bosnian fired in after Naismith’s header was punched onto the post by goalkeeper Smith.

It was 1-1 at the interval and it remained that way until eleven minutes from time but just when it looked like Rangers could drop two points. It was last week’s hat-trick hero Kenny Miller who was again on the scoresheet after being put through by McCulloch. The Scotland hitman slotted home from 15 yards to give Rangers all three points and to maintain the 100% record.
