Rangers capture of former Liverpool fullback Jon Flanagan earlier this summer certainly caused a few tasty comments within the fanbase.
Not so much on a player rating scale but owing to his off-pitch issues in former years which left many fans feeling they would be unable to support him nor condone new manager Steven Gerrard making the move for his former Liverpool colleague.
Others were prepared to trust he’d learnt from previous indiscretions and those issues, and that as there hasn’t been a repeat since he, like everyone, deserved the opportunity for a second chance and in Gerrard we should trust if that had been his determination when targeting the player.
Given the Europa League Qualifying Second Round tie against Osijek last night, fans certainly weren’t happy with his performance on the evening but time will tie on whether he’s been harshly judged defensively here based on previous issues or whether for many it’s a straight-laced reaction to his 90 minutes.
A few thought he simply had an off day given what they’ve seen so far.
