That three-nil win over Peterhead saw the Gers into the second round draw and following this being made this afternoon we now know it’s New Broomfield for the next League Cup tie, which will take place on Tuesday 25th or Wednesday 26th August with the Wednesday date more likely but full details will be confirmed.

Airdrie booked their second round place with a win over Stirling Albion.

Bitter rivals, and holders, Celtic don’t come into this until the third round along with Aberdeen, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, St Johnstone and Dundee United.

League Cup second round draw in full:-

Ross County v Ayr United
Forfar Athletic v Heart of Midlothian
Kilmarnock v Berwick Rangers
Raith Rovers v Hamilton Academical
Queen of the South v Morton
Dunfermline Athletic v Dundee
Partick Thistle v Falkirk
East Fife v Motherwell
Hibernian v Stranraer
Airdrieonians v Rangers
St Mirren v Livingston

You’ve got to go way back to the 2001/02 season when Rangers won three-nil, under the now Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat, in the last League Cup meeting between the sides. Shota Arveladze, with two, and Arthur Numan were the goalscorers.

The season before last Gers played, and beat, Airdrie on five occasions, we’ll be looking to complete a double hat-trick in this next meeting….but will we?
