Rangers booked a place in the second round of another cup competition, following up the Challenge Cup win over Hibernian, with a win over Peterhead in the League Cup on Sunday. Both of these cup-ties played before a ball was kicked in the Scottish Championship of course!

Peterhead came to Ibrox looking to secure a major upset but this wasn’t going to be the case at all with the Gers comfortably seeing off the visitors with a three-nil win to leave Warburton at two out of two in competitive action in front of more than 25,500.

Goals from Templeton, Miller and Tavernier were enough to send Rangers into round two.

Having won six-two the weekend prior it wasn’t expected Warburton would change much, and sure enough only Shiels came in for Holt.

A lead Rangers had been threatening, and could have already had, finally came when Templeton managed to finish a McKay cross past ex-Gers ‘keeper Smith to make it one-nil at the break.

Waghorn would have followed up his debut double against Hibs with a home debut goal too but his effort was blocked on the line by Strachan, with Shiels also denied another goal for Rangers by a goal line clearance.

Miller, once again, made an impact from the bench when he added the second from a Tavernier cross.

It wasn’t to be for Waghorn on the afternoon with a curling shot hitting the post but his former Wigan teammate Tavernier made sure of the result, beyond doubt, when the right back wrapped up the win with the third.
