Manager Mark Warburton has called on the Rangers side to make their mark on the Championship within four or five games of the season beginning.

Taking charge for his first league game on Friday since arriving at the club over the summer, Warburton told the Official Site that his demands and expectations of the players would never drop, so it’s down to them to live up to what he wants and make a quick mark on the top of the table to set ourselves up for the coming Championship 2015-16 campaign where promotion is clearly the aim.

Ahead of the St Mirren opener he explained.

‘I want us to be as high in the league as we possibly can be, simple as that, and we spoke about points targets last year but it is a different proposition this year because of the expectation. I have every belief in the squad and I have no doubt how good they can be and we know what we need to do to have or be classed as having a good successful season. I very much hope that four or five games in, we can lay a marker down, a real marker.’

Warburton went on to say that the Hibernian victory was obviously a good performance and a good result but one game doesn’t make a statement – to make a statement you have to sustain it over a period of time and that’s exactly what he wants from the players as we enter the league campaign.

‘Four or five games in you want to put the message out that things are more or less going in the right direction. We have to be the best we can be every single time we go onto that pitch, all the work we do here, day in and day out is focussed on the next performance. I think we have to devour the games, and I mean that is the right way, we have to look forward to them – like Sunday we played well and put a good performance in so you enjoy the win but now all the focus is on St. Mirren. We will hopefully get a good performance and try and dictate where we can and then we move onto the next game. It is one game at a time and there is no point us looking forward to a fixture in two weeks` time if we lose two games in the meantime.’

The gaffer goes on to say it’s the whole package as everything players do in their lives has to be geared towards a match day.

‘The work starts immediately, how you eat, how you sleep, how you rest, how you train – everything is geared towards performance. If you want to play for a club of this stature and with the demand and expectation then you have to make sure you`re the best you can be.’
