Rangers will be determined to win a trophy this season as we look to end Celtic’s stranglehold on the domestic game in this country.

The Hoops have had it their way and too easy for too long and it is good to see that the Gers are looking capable of challenging them at the top of the league this year.

However, a trophy is what is needed and we have the chance to win one sooner rather than later with the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup on the way this weekend.

Certainly, Steven Gerrard will be wanting a trophy now he’s in his second full season and, for Chris Sutton, if he doesn’t get one then he may well leave the club at the end of the campaign.

Quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said:

“But for Gerrard to come north, ultimately he needs to win something. That’s the pressure of managing Celtic and Rangers.

“If I’m honest, the team that finishes second in the league, I don’t see their manager lasting next season. I think it’s that big.”

Gerrard knows he needs to win a trophy but I disagree with Sutton here – still, why are we surprised?
