I’ve never been worried about speculation linking Steven Gerrard with a move away from Rangers – until now.

With Tottenham Hotspur sacking Jose Mourinho, the Gers gaffer’s name has found itself near to the top of the list for potential replacements and for this first time since he took charge at Ibrox, we could have a fight on our hands to keep him.

This season has seen Gerrard linked with a return to Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Leeds United, with varying degrees of interest leading him to comment on the link, specifically to Anfield, in a post “55” interview with ITV:

‘The Liverpool fans don’t want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club. They want Jurgen Klopp.

“I wish you knew how much we love Jurgen Klopp. Is it a dream for me to one day be the manager? Yes, it is. But not yet.

“We shouldn’t talk about this, we have one of the best managers leading our club at the minute, I love him.

“I hope he stays for a few more years. But I’ve got a job here. I don’t think it’s helpful to talk about this and I hope Jurgen stays at Liverpool for many years.”

Whether or not he would see a move to Spurs as the ideal opportunity to work in the Premier League before one day taking over in his dream role is another story, or if he believes that staying at Rangers and having a crack at the Champions League would be better for his development.

We have a global football icon as our manager and, now that he is a success, we are just going to have to get used to him being linked with every job that becomes available down south, hopefully, as long as the Liverpool one doesn’t come up we should be ok, for now.
