We’ve been expecting offers from the Premier League this summer but few would have predicted Everton making an offer for Nathan Patereson.

The £5million bid from Goodison was rejected immediately and it’s safe to say that Steven Gerrard was far from impressed after being asked about it by Heart and Hands’ Martyn Ramsay in his post-match press conference.

Patterson might only, technically, be our second choice right-back, however, he’s also now a senior international, has Europa League experience, and is back-up to our skipper – he has the hardest task of any in the squad in terms of trying to nail down a regular game.

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

Gerrard’s reactions says it all though, £5m is a laughable amount for a player with Patterson’s potential, it’s an easy comparison to make – and yes, he did play more often – but Kieran Tierney cost Arsenal £25m and he didn’t exactly have his injury problems to seek.

Of all the players in Rangers squad, the 19-year old is probably the last player that will be sold this summer, it’s one thing having a transfer strategy that involves developing young players and selling them at a profit but to sell them when they are an important part of the first-team squad and with the ability to make the right-back position his own for the next decade, it really would have to be a huge bid for it to make any sense – sense that is lacking from the joke figure that Everton offered.
