It wasn’t quite a Sunday stroll but, it was certainly a lot better than our last performance in the Scottish Premiership.

We needed both a positive display and convincing result, we almost got both in the 4-2 win over Ross County but there are still a few things that need to be ironed out before we take on Celtic at Ibrox next weekend in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Steven Gerrard was a lot happier than he was after the mid-week win over Alashkert but knows that we can still get better, as reported on the Rangers website:

“You can see what we are trying to do out of possession quite clearly. We were really organised at times – okay, we are still trying to fine-tune that and we are still obviously waiting to get the full squad back in and settled, so we will get better in that department, but I thought we showed a lot of quality today.

“We created a lot and if James scores at the end there, it could have been one or two more.

“So going forward, we looked really dangerous. We have come away from home and got the three important points which is the main thing.”

It’s reassuring when we create so many chances, against Dundee United we weren’t at our best, similar to last year’s draw with Livingston, you don’t get away with defensive mistakes if you aren’t scoring goals – a problem we didn’t have in Dingwall.

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

Gerrard is right, it could, and should, have been a lot more than four goals that were scored, Ryan Kent huffed and puffed but still hasn’t found his shooting boots, he did look a lot sharper though which is good news going into such a big week of games.

We are starting to get players back to fitness with others not to far away, it was a strong squad that was available in the Highlands and one that is more than capable of getting the job done over the next seven days, if they can continue on the upward trajectory we could go into the international break in very decent shape.
