Former Rangers full-back, Alan Hutton, has blasted the SPFL’s handling of the proposed resolution that would see Celtic crowned Scottish Premiership champions without another ball being kicked.

Speaking to Football Insider, the retired right-back reveals exactly how he feels about the whole saga.

So what has Hutton said?

When asked how he felt the SPFL had handled the voting process, he said:

“It is a difficult decision. It has never happened before so nobody knows how it is going to pan out. It is a decision that will have to be made by all of the clubs.

“I understand it is tough but the handling of it is not good reading for people on the outside looking in. It is up in the air, the leaks – it looks amateur.

“They are making a decision that has to be best for all parties and that is the difficult part.”

So is Hutton correct?

It has been exactly as Hutton describes – amateur – with a raft of claim and counter-claim, and the SPFL being called out by several member clubs.

Rangers have been joined by Hearts, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Partick Thistle amongst others, in reacting angrily to the process that has seen Dundee become solely responsible for the future of Scottish football and in charge of the destiny of several clubs at both ends of the respective tables.

Which English club did Rangers sign Ally McCoist from in 1983?

With Partick Thistle the latest to threaten legal action based on Dundee and the SPFL’s actions, fans and clubs across the country are no further forward than they were on Friday afternoon with the Tayside club forced into a statement where they say nothing more than they have nothing further to say – you couldn’t make it up.

The saga has been an embarrassment to Scottish football and unfortunately, there is no sign that it will be resolved any time soon.
