Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has a storied relationship with Ibrox. Having made well over 200 career appearances for us across his three spells, the third spell wasn’t exactly perfect for a variety of reasons – both on and off the pitch.

The now 40-year-old clearly had issues with former manager Pedro Caixinha and given everything that was happening at the time (before Miller was ultimately dumped out of the first team squad), it was hardly a well-kept secret.

Speaking to the Daily Record recently, Miller again took the opportunity to restate his position that appointing Caixinha from Qatar side Al-Gharafa was a massive mistake.

“It was a strange appointment from the outset. When would you ever get a manager getting a job of that size, coming from that league? No disrespect to that league, but it’s not well-known compared to a major European division or team. Rangers was a big job, despite all the trouble the football club had over the years. It was still a coveted job – just look at who the manager is now, one of the biggest names in the game as a player. So when you are having to Google who is getting the job, it just doesn’t sit right. I’m sure every other player in the league, and fans, would have been doing the exact same thing as what I was. We thought it wasn’t going to be the right fit and it got messy.”

For those who weren’t exactly enamoured by our former gaffer and his 229 day stay in charge, Miller’s words will again find plenty of support – especially the having to Google him to find out who he was in the first place – as there weren’t many high points in that spell, but we certainly had our low points.

Off pitch disagreements, leaks to the press, bust-ups and the likes. There are a few differing opinions with hindsight as a friend, but there can’t be many fans who don’t feel we got quickly back on track – leading us to this point, where there’s plenty of hope for next season (whenever that comes) that we can go one better.
