Michael Beale has wasted no time in getting down to work with his Rangers players with Monday afternoon’s session taken care of, prior to the official announcement of his appointment.

The Londoner becomes the 18th permanent manager of Rangers with a clear remit of improvement and progress. He will need backed in order to make forward strides but there will also be an onus on Beale to coach his side to a higher level.

He won’t be doing that alone as along side him will be his trusted assistants Neil Banfield, Damian Matthew and Harry Watling who have all made the same journey from west London. As they come into the club, going the other way is the full quota of Gio van Bronckhorst’s staff with the confirmation that Roy Makaay, Dave Vos, Ceri Bowley, Arno Philips and Yori Bosschaart have left Ibrox.

It is very encouraging to hear that Beale has already put down some key messages as he aims to hit the ground running with so much to do in the coming days and weeks.

To an extent, he has replicated the plan of Steven Gerrard who surrounded himself with others who are very skilled in their own ways, complimenting the overall team. Just as the new Rangers boss was at the forefront of training on a daily basis, there was the likes of Gary McAllister, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom playing their own part.

Banfield is a veteran coach with decades of experience in the game including a 20-year journey at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger. He is thought to be a midfield specialist whereas Matthew will take on defensive duties. Watling is a set-piece specialist who will also have input in terms of player development.

It is very much out with the (not so) old and in with the (kinda) new.
