It may have gone unnoticed but contained in the official statement to announce Michael Beale’s Rangers return was a notice of further arrivals to come for his backroom team.

The new regime wasted no time, getting straight down to work on Monday afternoon with the players as they went through the first steps of several over the next couple of weeks in order to make an impact on 15th December against Hibs. Everything carries value in the build-up to the Premiership restart but it is that game that really matters, with aspirations of building momentum ahead of the Old Firm clash on 2nd January.

As was expected, Beale was at the heart of the training session with his players at Auchenhowie on Monday, also flanked by his three colleague who have followed in his footsteps from London in what will be a considerable challenge to be met head on.

“Neil Banfield, Harry Watling and Damian Matthew will all join Michael at Rangers, with further appointments to be confirmed in the days ahead.”

That was the one-liner from the club statement which will create intrigue as well as welcoming the other new arrivals to the club.

Change

It was also confirmed today that Gio van Bronckhorst’s support staff had departed the club in a changing of the guard but what will happen next?

There could be space for a fitness and conditioning coach with a similar remit to Jordan Milsom and there is absolutely room for an individual with fire in the belly to come in and maintain standards, reminding the players constantly what is expected of them.

We won’t have long to wait to find out as the Mick Beale era begins from a training ground launch pad.
