Well that was a satisfactory first half with Rangers firmly in control at Dens Park.

There have been too many post-Europe hangovers on the pitch this season but that does not appear to be the case today with Gio van Bronckhorst’s side firmly in the mood.

Here are three talking points for half-time:

Excellent Attitude

Following the high of Thursday night against Red Star, it has been more of the same from the Gers with application and urgency very visible. They smell blood from their faltering opponents and the job now is to hammer home the advatage from the first half, add more goals and to set down a marker for next week’s return visit to Dundee on league duty. An early goal, another strong set-piece effort was finished well by Connor Goldson after Fil Helander went very close. Great movement and interplay from Aaron Ramsey and the skipper James Tavernier made for another penalty. The main man Tav made no mistake, once again. Rangers have been unlucky not to add to their two goals with a few more efforts spurned.

Ramsey role

Pre-match, the team line-up suggested a change. Surely Ramsey wouldn’t play wide right? No not quite, but he is tucked in off the right to allow Tavernier to overlap and the Gers are getting a lot of joy from it. Maybe we’re not getting the best out of Glen Kamara in a more advanced role but so far so good, overall. Ramsey has been neat and tidy with some quality touches. More of the same please.

Relentless Rangers

The first half has been pleasing but how much do they want it? There is four or five goals here for the taking today. No repeat of the Motherwell farce can be allowed to happen – the second half has to see the away side continue as they left off, to exploit Dundee’s vulnerability. A quick third can set the tone for further goals to follow then the subs can be fully utilised.
