Rangers will play in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup for the first time in four years.

A place in the last four was secured thanks to a very comfortable win over Dundee at Dens Park with the 0-3 scoreline being the least that the visitors deserved this afternoon.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s most recent visit to Hampden was just for a watching brief, immediately after he had agreed to become Steven Gerrard’s replacement. On that occasion, a League Cup horror show unfolded against Hibs with the team passing up the chance to get to another final.

This time there was no mistake with Rangers continuing on from where they left off on Thursday night in Europe so there will be an element of personal satisfaction for the manager, leading the team back to Hampden at the first time of asking under his management. This is of particular resonance as Gerrard failed to get the side to a Scottish Cup semi-final over his three full seasons in charge.

Scottish Cup struggles

20/21 – St Johnstone – QF defeat on penalties at Ibrox
19/20 – Hearts – QF defeat at Tynecastle
18/19 – Aberdeen – QF replay defeat at Ibrox

Momentum

Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United or Celtic are the others in the draw on Monday evening when the ties will be revealed for the games to take place over the Easter weekend.

Before then there will be an element of deja vu with Red Star coming up on Thursday followed by another trip to Dens Park next Sunday on league business. The response since a sluggish win against Aberdeen last week has been terrific, more of the same and carry this momentum forward please!
