Rangers have been dealt a blow in their hopes of getting Scott Wright through the door early after Derek McInnes confirmed that he is quite happy to keep him at Aberdeen if the clubs can’t reach a mutually beneficial arrangement.

The Daily Record has reported that McInnes will have no problems picking the Ibrox-bound forward, despite the recent negativity from the Aberdeen support about one of their players heading on to bigger and better things:

“He (Wright) is a key player for us and whether we have a player with six months or five years remaining on his contract it is important Aberdeen get a good offer. If it is not there we continue as we are

“It’s important for us as a team to try to be as strong as we can between now and the end of the campaign. We’ve got loads to play for and it’s important that we continue to utilise the players we’ve got, the players we’re paying wages for and players that are ours.

“He will be in the squad. I’ve said in an ideal situation, these things you want to try and get resolved if you can.

“If we can’t and we don’t get a good offer, then it’s important that we don’t weaken our own team. He’s a good player for us and he continues to be a good player for us until something changes.

“We’re all used to players playing against teams who they are going to be playing for next season since Bosman came in. It has become more of a pattern.

“In an ideal world once a player has committed his future elsewhere a deal can be done but it is not the only scenario.”

Are you bothered about Wright arriving in January?

No

Getting Wright in now would be an advantage for next season, but it isn’t essential, we do still have plenty of cover in forward areas, however, with the pre-contract agreement in place, it certainly swings negotiations in our favour.
