Deja vu for Gers Dens Park trip

There’s a strange sense of deja vu this week as a trip to Dens Park follows a momentous night in the Europa League in what is a game that is every bit as important.

Beating Red Star Belgrade to reach the quarter-finals is a huge achievement but it will soon be forgotten if Rangers don’t take all three points back to Glasgow, especially after the dominance of our 3-0 win last weekend.

Jon McLaughlin had a quiet afternoon in the sticks and, despite it being a league game and Allan McGregor’s mid-week heroics, I’d want him to come back in because a lot of our best attacks started with him.

When Dundee press we have to be able to play through or around them which opens up more space behind to attack into, McLaughlin gives our defenders another option and he never wastes possession or goes long unless he is under pressure. I wouldn’t normally be one for rotating goal keepers but I just think that he is the best one for this job.

There is no reason why we should change our approach, we might make changes in personnel but by being aggressive and winning the ball higher up the park we were able to make more chances, there is a reason that they are bottom of the Premiership.

With a near fully fit squad there is no need to run tired players into the ground either although, in fairness, the international break will provide respite for those that haven’t been called up.

At this stage of the season every game is a cup final and there is no excuse for anything less than three points but the attitude, as it was last week, has to be right from the very first whistle.
