Romanian international midfielder the “ideal player” for Gio as Gers target £4.95m man

Rangers search for a new midfielder has taken a different turn having been frustrated in bids for Angelo Fulgini and Adem Zorgame.

This time Ross Wilson’s recruitment team has turned to Romania and Steau Bucharest with Darius Oralu said to have caught the eye of our sporting director, according to a report on Twitter.

If your Romanian isn’t that good, the post from Romanian Rhapsody – a Romanian football site – reads:

“Glasgow Rangers  are said to be behind Darius Olaru . Seems like a great move from Rangers scouts, Olaru is an ideal player for their football.”

The 24-year old international team-mate of Ianis Hagi is capable of playing as a central or attacking midfielder and is currently valued at over £4.95million on Transfermarkt– his contract still having two years left to run.

Like Hagi, Oralu is “two-footed” which is still a surprisingly rare skill amongst professional footballers and he is happy to shoot off either side.

With Malik Tillman reportedly on his way, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is filling the gaps in his squad in terms of quality and upgrading  starting positions with players more suited to how he wants to set up – Glen Kamara is a class act but we should never be playing him as an attacking midfielder or a number ten.

Getting new players in early is a huge bonus, if we can have the squad built by the middle of July then all that is left is for us to do is trim the squad of the players who aren’t contributing or who have been deemed surplus to requirements, unfortunately, sometimes this is easier said than done.
