Rangers will wrap up the loan signing of Bayern Munich’s Malik Tillman, according to fresh reports this morning.

Four Lads Had A Dream has stated that the German born USA international attacker is on the verge of a switch to play under Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the coming season and that he will be with the squad for the pre-season game at Blackpool, tomorrow.

Whilst the are critics of the loan market and the productivity for Rangers in developing players for other clubs, this is a highly rated asset from Bayern Munich who has already been trusted by Julien Nagelsmann to feature in the Bundesliga as well as the Champions League.

To date, he has featured six times for the German giants who obviously are trusting GvB and his coaching team to take the next step with the 20-year old.

The update has also been featured by Chris Jack of the Herald and Times group:

“Herald and Times Sport understands Rangers are close to finalising a move to bring the highly-rated Bundesliga kid to Glasgow.”

“Rangers have added Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo to their ranks already this summer.”

“And Tillman is now poised to become the fourth arrival and complete a season long loan move to Ibrox.”

Key signing

This move won’t have been sanctioned without an understanding of game time and an assumed role for Tillman at Ibrox. The clubs will have discussed a plan for the attacking midfielder, who will find certain similarities on the domestic front in Scotland, as would be the case in Munich.

Rangers European progression will also be crucial. Making the step to the Champions League would be massive for everyone and obviously for the health of the club but it would also assist in terms of recruiting good players, including loan options like this from elite clubs. There will of course be a minimum of Europa League football next season for the Gers.

For many, this arrival will be an effective ‘replacement’ for Joe Aribo. Whilst certainly not like for like, Malik Tillman will take on a responsibility and an onus to make a significant impact on the season ahead.

This is an exciting, intriguing deal which is rapidly heading for completion.
