The mood music from Turkey is hitting the right notes for Rangers in their pursuit of Besiktas’ Ridvan Yilmaz.

With a suggested outlay of around £5million, this would be a very significant signing for Rangers and the seventh acquisition in this Summer transfer window.

Whilst the Scottish media are obviously following the transfer story, conflicting updates have appeared from Turkish sources on Twitter, in particular, with most of those featured coming from journalists with significant platforms.

Whilst some had suggested that Besiktas were still waiting on an agreeable deal for their highly rated left back, other updates provided on Thursday intimated that an agreement with Rangers was now in place.

This has been repeated from another source, as below:

“Rıdvan Yılmaz looks like he will wear a Rangers jersey. The deal is about to be completed by a large margin… Everything is going well.”

This follows on from our update earlier which indicated that the green light had been signalled for Yilmaz to depart for Glasgow.

Arrivals

John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo, Malik Tillman, Ben Davies have all been added to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad over the last few weeks.

It has been a welcome but unanticipated signing spree recently with most expectations thinking up to four could arrive.

The turnover isn’t finished as whilst another couple of new faces are possible, there will still surely be a handful of exits to follow over the next week or two.

Calvin Bassey’s quality and competition at left-back was always needing to be replaced and Yilmaz ticks a lot of boxes in that regard, whilst Davies can compliment Connor Goldson further, as well as providing that additional option lost in the heart of defence.

With the final preparations for the competitive season coming this weekend, Rangers are making use of the time very wisely to have the squad primed to fire.
