Rangers need to strengthen in January, there is little doubt about that, however, our recruitment may have taken a slightly different turn now that Michael Beale has been installed as manager.

His predecessor was naturally pragmatic and inherited a squad that didn’t really suit his needs but the new gaffer’s promise of delivering an exciting brand of football means that there needs to be some tinkering in terms of personnel.

Midfield and the forward areas are where we could see a few new faces – depending on outgoings – with the engine room, in particular, looking like it needs to be freshened up. James Sands is only on loan and Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack and Steven Davis are all soon to be out of contract.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Beale will have been sold a transition that involves being able to build his own squad:

“Part of it is that Rangers have spelt out a promising future plan for him. He knows he’s going to be able to shape the first team and he will be able to have a big say on how the club is run too.

“I think they really see him as a big figurehead here and that is something that’s really exciting. The promise of funds in January comes as part of the package.”

There will be money to spend given how good our accounts looked for the financial year and what they will look like next year with Champions League participation added to the sales of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, it’s just a question of how much and where will it be spent?

No manager takes over a new job without having reassurances about budget, and Beale, having been at the club not that long ago, will have known exactly what he was walking into in terms of the condition of our squad.
