Kenny Miller is adamant that Rangers can secure a positive result to take to Eindhoven next week in the race for Champions League group stage qualification.

The three-times Rangers player has backed Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team to get the job done, supported by the important influence of the fans with Ibrox set to be rocking once again on the big stage.

The Scotland international appeared on Sky Sports News on Tuesday afternoon to preview the Champions League Playoff round first leg against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV.

He was sure that a win is there for the taking, following on from the great run last season with many of the team still in pace:

“At home, there’s no doubt for me, Rangers should be looking to win this game of football.”

When asked if Rangers must win the first leg, Miller responded:

“Obviously, that would be ideal. I think as long as they don’t get beat. It would be a big ask to go and overturn a 1-0, 2-0 defeat, even 2-1. That being said, they can definitely score.”

“As long as they can go over there with the tie alive, with the pace they’ve got, with guys like Tillman, maybe Morelos coming back in, Kent definitely, Matondo – the guys who can attack with pace, I don’t think the game would be dead but ideally with this (Ibrox) crowd behind them tonight, it would be great to go over there with a 1-0, 2-0 win.”

Balanced

Tactics and quality will go a long way to determining the outcome of this game and the tie overall.

PSV are not so strong in defence but they are formidable going forward. Joey Veerman in midfield is a very good player, as is the like of Cody Gakpo on the left and former Barcelona man Luuk de Jong is an experienced, high level striker.

It will be a really rough encounter but we all know what this Gers team can do when on the front foot and playing with purpose on these European nights. PSV won’t be taking it lightly and rightly so, they know they need to be at their best to bring home a desirable result for next week,
