Rangers go into battle against Ajax tonight needing to do things the hard way, if only to win the game never mind pull off the almost impossible.

Either way, they will need to do it without the services of John Lundstram who misses the final game of the Champions League campaign due to suspension.

Everyone knows that the Gers have a mountain climb if they are to secure Europa League football beyond Christmas but John Lundstram is a believer in Ibrox.

Last May, the stadium rocked to its core in pushing the team over the line against RB Leipzig for a place in the Europa League Final in Seville. That famous occasion was the culmination of several spellbinding nights under the lights at Ibrox with the synergy of team and fans combining to put illustrious opponents to the sword.

As good as that was, beating Ajax by five goals would eclipse the lot. It would be as remarkable as it is unlikely, especially with GvB without 10 first team players to choose from.

Not to be deterred, Lundstram refused to accept defeat:

“At Ibrox, I think anything is possible.”

“In the Champions League we had the intensity for the first 60 minutes in the two home games against Napoli and Liverpool. We were flying in them. Once we conceded the first two against Liverpool we absolutely crumbled, there is no denying that. The sending off against Napoli (James Sands) changes the game. Before that the intensity was spot on, I thought we were brilliant.”

The force and conviction as seen on Saturday against Aberdeen needs to continue at Ibrox tonight. Rangers have to go for it and in doing so, will get the crowd onside.

Imagine a 2-0 lead in the first twenty minutes? It’s the hope that kills!
