Injuries have not been kind to Rangers over the course of this season so far. Key players have been ruled out preventing Giovanni van Bronckhorst from accessing his full quota.

As we inch closer to the World Cup break, the downtime will come as welcome relief to the staff at the club to have time to recuperate those who have been on the sidelines in recent weeks and months, with some other anticipated for a January return.

By the time the restart comes with the visit of Hibs to Ibrox on 15th December, the squad will be in better shape than it is now, no doubt about it.

Tonight’s game against Ajax would have been a challenge regardless but the injury situation in underlined with Rangers having almost a full team of senior players missing, all that is missing is a goalkeeper!

Souttar, Goldson, Helander, Davies, Ridvan, Lundstram, Jack, Lawrence, Hagi, Roofe

John Lundstram misses Matchday Six in the Champions League due to suspension as he would otherwise have played but the yellow card picked up in Naples last week means he will need to wait until Sunday at St Johnstone for a return to action.

The condensed first half of this season with European action and its intensity coming thick and fast has done Rangers no favours. That will have been a factor contributing to the absentee list whilst there will be checks and balances behind the scenes to monitor the players activity and workloads in training to search for further answers.

It isn’t sustainable but as we go into the New Year with a lighter schedule, the likely omission of Euro football included, there needs to be a visible difference to the squad as well as the product on the pitch.
