Anticipation building on Rangers new arrivals

The news of a potential exit for Juninho Bacuna has increased anticpation of new arrivals to follow at Ibrox.

This afternoon he has been linked with a switch to Birmingham City in the English Championship.

Combined with the season-ending injury to Ianis Hagi and the loss of his services for the foreseeable future, Rangers simply have to react and there is little chance that at least one of those players will not be replaced.

Yes, the likes of Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack are set to return to the squad tonight to face Livingston, but in the case of the latter, his fitness cannot be relied upon unfortunately.

Given the nature of the title fight that is set to follow over the next few months, Rangers can’t stay still without strengthening and the need for quality isn’t lost on the manager. At yesterday’s pre-match press conference, he stated:

“We have to wait. We’re always looking to add players to the squad and make sure we are prepared if something happens.”

“I think it’s only good to bring players who can add something to Rangers and if we want players in, they have to be the right players otherwise you’d be better keeping your squad as it is.”

Quality

Fringe players such as Brandon Barker and Jack Simpson are likely to leave but there is no point replacing them with similar quality.

We need a couple of players ready to make an immediate impact on the first team, with perhaps a loan player to accompany a permanent signing for the middle to front areas of the pitch.

The defence is reasonably settled and looking ok, as well as the possibility of John Souttar making an early move along the M8 from Hearts.

With just five days of the transfer window remaining, things are about to get very interesting.
