Spartak Moscow have suffered their latest poor result, at home to lowly Arsenal Tula on Sunday, defeated 3-2 just days before their trip to Glasgow to face Rangers at Ibrox.

The Russian side have won just twice since August and have slipped to seventh in the Premier League table after the demoralising loss to a team that have flirted with the relegation zone this season.

Their efforts in European action haven’t gone to plan either, first losing away to Rapid Vienna before only managing a draw at home to Villarreal on matchday two of the UEFA Europa League.

While very much a quality outfit that will cause us problems, we shouldn’t fear them in their current state. They are there for the taking and a win would be a massive step towards qualifying for the last 32 of the competition.

They’ve conceded nine goals in their last four matches and if we can start positively and take the game to them, there’s every chance we could be celebrating another famous European night under Steven Gerrard, backed by a sold out Ibrox.

It’s a big ask, but I’ve learned not to write off Rangers in Europe this season, so why not dream?
