Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted he’s on the hunt for young players that aren’t getting club game time ahead of the January transfer window, as reported by The Daily Record.

Gerrard was in attendance for the recent Scotland vs England U21s international match at Tynecastle with Gers coach Gary McAllister and Director of Football Mark Allen.

It raised questions about why he was at the match and he admitted that part of that reason was to scout for potential Ibrox talent.

Asked if he was there to look at potential signings, as quoted by The Daily Record, Gerrard said:

Possibly, I’m not going to lie to you.

I went to the game because it’s a juicy fixture, England-Scotland always is. Two of my players were playing for Scotland as well obviously, Ross McCrorie and Glenn Middleton, who I wanted to watch closely. But I wanted to have a look at what was about.

A lot of players on show are at clubs but maybe not satisfied with the amount of games they’re playing,

So I’m not going to sit here and lie and say I wasn’t there to see the talent.

England U21s ran out 2-0 winners with Reiss Nelson and Kieran Dowell on the scoresheet.

Nelson is an Arsenal prospect but is already out on loan at Hoffenheim, where he’s enjoying a successful 2018/19 season so far.

Kieran Dowell though is an interesting name, given he is currently not getting a game for Everton and hasn’t found a temporary home for the season.

An attacking midfielder, he excelled for Nottingham Forest in the English Championship last term, scoring 10 goals and assisting 5 times from midfield.

Was he one the players under consideration by Gerrard?
