Rangers will have to sell one or two players this summer, sad though it would be to see successful players leave, it is the model to which we are now a slave to.

There has already been speculation surrounding the likes of Ianis Hagi, Glen Kamara and Ryan Kent but, surprisingly, given his heroics in the Europa League and his recent form, it has all gone quiet for Alfredo Morelos – a player all of us thought was destined for the exit on more than one occasion over the last couple of years.

Steven Gerrard spoke after the weekend’s Old Firm success about trying to get Kamara and Connor Goldson tied down to longer contracts and it may be that Morelos is next in line, if recent reports are to be believed.

El Bufalo’s current deal expires in 2023 which means that this summer is the optimal window to sell him, with his value likely to start dropping as he gets closer to the end of his contract, however, The 4th Official claims that the Colombian international is set to stay at Rangers beyond the summer and lead the assault on the Champions League.

“I have been told reliably by a couple of sources that Alfredo Morelos wants to stay on at Rangers for next season. While most expected the Colombian to leave for Lille at the start of this season, a deal with the French club could not be agreed after Rangers rejected a £16m bid from the Ligue 1 side.

“Now, I was given the information that Alfredo Morelos is currently negotiating a new deal (his current one expires in 2023) with Ross Wilson. While that is still ongoing, and no matter how negotiations go, the forward wants to stay on at Rangers next season as he feels he has a ‘challenge of Champions League to complete with Rangers’.

“So whether he signs a new contract or not, Morelos wants to stay on and lead the line for Rangers. That is great news for Rangers fans all over.”

It will all come down to what bids receive and for what players, but it is another positive sign that we are heading in the right direction, Morelos can be used as a great example when trying to attract other players to the club, he has been capped by his country and will now be given the chance to play in the Champions League.

There is no reason – other than perhaps money – to leave Ibrox and head to the Premier League, especially when you add in the bonus of competing for silverware every season too.
