It’s happening isn’t it?
Gary McAllister reported for duty today in what was expected to be a run-of-the-mill press conference, not so, if the Rangers assistant manager’s comments on the future of Nathan Patterson are a hint at what we might see in the future.
The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell was reporting from the conference and revealed how a Vital Rangers dream could become a reality with the prospect of seeing James Tavernier and Patterson lining up together on the right-hand side of Steven Gerrard’s team.
McAllister says it’s “wonderful” to have both Patterson & Tavernier.
“Could that evolve? Could there be a little bit of change there? Time will tell but the beauty is that we have an outstanding youngster & a player whose numbers are among the best in the world from that area.”

McAllister also hinted that they could accommodate both:
“As a club we are uber-delighted to have two outstanding players in that area of the pitch.
“There are different formations that, you never know, you might be able to get them both on the pitch at the same time.”

Now, before we get too excited, McAllister could also be teasing us, but given how our midfielders play and in particualr Ryan Jack on the right of a three, there is no reason why we couldn’t play them both, Tavernier certainly has the skillset and athleticism to play the position.

As Vital Rangers reported, for those that think the Gers skipper is too old at 29 to change positions, Phillip Lahm was exactly the same age when Pep Guardiola moved him into the middle.
Our midfielders have to be able to contribute at both ends of the park, get up and down for 90 minutes and be brave in possession, if anything, playing Tavernier and Patterson together could make us even stronger, now there’s a thought.
