Kris Boyd has never been shy of voicing his opinion on all things Rangers, even before he hung his boots up and began his full-time punditry career, with Alfredo Morelos frequently coming under fire.

He again chose to lay into the Gers number 20 on the Sky Sports coverage after drawing a blank against Ross County, despite contributing towards a successful attacking display.

The Colombian isn’t having his best goal scoring season in a Light Blue shirt but with seven goals and four assists in 20 appearances he is still contributing to the Gers attack, that his role has changed to the benefit of the team seems to have been lost on Boyd though who just doesn’t seem to get the tactical adaptations that have benefited everything excepted El Bufalo’s personal goal tally.

The first goal against Ross County is the perfect example of what he has now added to the team, dragging out the centre-half, holding the ball up before laying it off to Steven Davis to play in James Tavernier in the space that Morelos had created – if he had looked for the ball himself in behind, the space simply wouldn’t have been there, all of this missed by the former Rangers man whose overtly critical analysis is getting tiresome.

Against Standard Liege he was visibly frustrated, he made several runs in behind the Belgian’s defence but every time the opportunity arose, teammates were unable to pick him out with the killer pass, he just isn’t getting as many chances to score as he was last season.

Who scored Rangers first competitive goal of the season?

Boyd praised Defoe for his goal scoring impact when he came on but there is a huge difference, Cedric Itten did the donkey work out wide and then picked out the England international in the six yard box, whereas when Rangers scored their third Morelos was poised for a tap-in only for the defender to fire into his own goal.

Sometimes the ball just doesn’t run for you and Alfredo is in one of those moments, the scary thing – for other teams in Scotland – is that we are sweeping domestic “rivals” aside without him scoring goals, imagine what will happen when he starts firing again.
