Rangers have been linked with a bargain six-figure move for Jakub Swierczok of Ludogorets with the Polish striker attracting attention following a fine start to the season.

The 27-year old international is currently on loan in his homeland with Piast Gilwice and according to a report in The Daily Record, if Rangers want to follow up their interest, they will need to wait in line.

The Poles have an option to buy clause in the forward’s loan deal meaning that they get first refusal on any permanent move that Swierczok makes, a local news outlet claiming that he could be acquired for as little as €500,000 (£454k) despite holding a valuation of over £2million on transfermarkt.

Piast have yet to make a decision on the player with sporting director Bogdan Wilk confirming that they have plenty of time to make their minds up:

“We still have a lot of time to decide on the possible purchase of Jakub from Bulgaria. We have to decide shortly before the end of the season.

“Ludogorets have said it is not possible to transfer Swierczok in winter.”

With five goals in 11 appearances he has started the season in decent form, finding the net in each of his last four games, however, The Record claims that any approach for the striker would be based on either the sale of Alfredo Morelos or the retirement of Jermain Defoe.

Who scored Rangers first competitive goal of the season?

Rangers are well equipped in attack with one of the strongest forward lines since Walter Smith returned in 2007, but we will have to wait a while before we see whether or not Swierczok joins Steven Gerrard’s squad, if he does, he could be joining the champions of Scotland…
