Rangers fans appear to be in favour of trying to sign Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel this January, after the club were again linked with a move for him.

Turkish media outlets reported that Steven Gerrard was still interested in signing his former Liverpool teammate, after a proposed move in the summer broke down.

His contract expires at the end of the current season, meaning the Gers could be in an excellent bargaining position when it comes to such a transfer.

Still a regular in the Turkish top-flight, the 33-year-old could be the missing piece of the defensive puzzle that Gerrard has been recently trying to solve.

He has a reliable centre-back in Connor Goldson, but has struggled to find a consistent partner with both Joe Worral and Nikola Katic suffering dips in form.

Gareth McAuley has returned to fitness too, but another quality option in the defensive line offers tactical flexibility and the depth required to compete for major honours in the second half of the season.

Supporters seem to be in favour of the potential transfer, with 68% of respondents to a poll we published at the weekend believe the club should try to sign him.
