Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is clearly enjoying himself away from Rangers and Ibrox in the season of 2018/19 as he secured himself a loan spell out with English League One side Scunthorpe United over the summer transfer window.

The now 25-year-old joined Rangers from Port Vale back in the 2017 January window but he has only made eleven appearances in his time with us, but the loan spell has been incredibly successful from a game-time point of view as he’s notched up 18 appearances already this campaign for them.

With Allan McGregor more than established as first choice and Wes Foderingham playing backup, Alnwick knows that once he returns he’ll be on the sidelines again and with sensible players looking for game time more than just picking up a wage for training, it’s understandable as to why he’s reticent to return in those circumstances.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside last Friday, he was perfectly respectful about Rangers as a club and the fans, but he did admit he wanted the loan to turn permanent if a deal could be done that suited all parties.

“I’ve had conversations with my agent and said I love it down here and want to keep playing. I’m not sure what they’re wanting to do, but from my personal point of view I want to keep playing games and there couldn’t be a better club for me to be at. I would love to stay but it is dependent on the club here if they want to keep me and it would depend if Rangers if they want to keep me out on loan. If everything comes together, then hopefully I can stay.”

I would imagine it’s more likely he’ll remain with them until the end of the campaign as despite his performances, you couldn’t fault manager Steven Gerrard for having one eye on the future and cover given McGregor’s advancing years.
