With ongoing speculation over the weekend about on loan Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria and whether or not he will return to his parent club in January after his apparent recent social media deletions, it looks like Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already found a worthy replacement but this one is a Liverpool blue.

The rumour mill has been pretty full of speculation linking Rangers with a move for Everton starlet Kieran Dowell and as the January transfer window nears, the speculation is just getting stronger and certainly seems to have been given an extra lease of life following the recent Ejaria revelations.

Sky Sports have recently quoted Gerrard talking about the 21-year-old England Under 21 international and whilst he wouldn’t be drawn on whether we were in discussions or would try to open them, he’s certainly aware of the player and he likes him.

“I definitely admire Kieran and I’ve watched a lot of him. He’s an Everton player so I can’t say anything else on him at the moment – but he’s certainly one I admire.”

Dowell had a good loan spell out in the English Championship in 2017/18 with Nottingham Forest and his stock certainly rose, but he’s only featured twice so far in 2018/19 under Marco Silva at Goodison Park so a loan, if the right deal can be done, would be beneficial to both.

Whilst for me, Dowell and Ejaria are slightly different players, Dowell’s goal return is far superior and he’s not too shabby on a creation front either.
