Joe Dodoo, the match-winning substitute for Rangers at Partick Thistle on Saturday, has been backed to force his way into Mark Warburton’s side on a regular basis by teammate Danny Wilson.

Dodoo, also involved in the injury-time winner against Dundee a week earlier having come off the bench at Ibrox, came on at Firhill to equalise for Rangers at struggling Patrick, with his first league goal for the club, before getting a second with the winner in added time.

After taking a little time to settle at the club, also having some injuries to content with, Wilson has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying he believes he’ll now push on as he aims to stake a claim for a regular place.

‘He has done well and this can be a platform for him to push on. He’s had a few injuries but now hopefully he can get a run. He has the qualities to kick on. I think that’s what we do need. We have been trying to preach to each other that we should be calmer when we get into those situations.’

Wilson, who is likely to come up against the club he captained to the Championship title in 2015, Hearts, on Wednesday, doesn’t doubt the quality the striker has and the others at Ibrox.

The defender did add the lack of goals, which Dodoo could now add too, have been our ‘downfall’ this season though.

‘I’m not a forward so it’s not my place to tell people how to finish but Joe has scored two great goals. He has the capabilities to put the ball in the back of the net. We have not scored that many goals this season and that has been our downfall in games.’
