As things stand, Rangers will play two more games prior to the September International window.

Those fixtures comes in the form of Napoli in the Champions League, ahead of Dundee United in the Premiership, both at Ibrox.

Home comforts should follow but what comes next is too unpredictable, given the low ebb the team finds itself at just now after the last two humblings dished out on the pitch, away to Celtic and Ajax, respectively.

By the time that domestic football gets underway again with the game at Tynecastle on 1st October, there will be almost certain change at Ibrox – either Gio van Bronckhorst will have found a better way on the pitch thanks to a breakthrough in the dressing room and the training pitch or it could just be the end of the Dutchman’s reign.

That might sound crazy but the last two games have been abject, stuff of real despair that there can be no continuation of.

Issues

From Eindhoven two weeks ago, to looking hopeless and helpless over the last seven days, something is clearly wrong within the current set-up.

The soundings from the manager have been unconvincing and the silence from the boardroom is making off field matters worse, something has to give soon.

Over the course, Gio has shown to be very capable in big games in Europe, but in Scotland he is still searching for answers. Not just against Celtic which is understandable to an extent, but the away form against the rest just hasn’t been good enough. The pattern is clear.

For now, we await official confirmation that Napoli goes ahead on Wednesday but it isn’t the only unknown. Can Rangers regain form? What is the problem? Is this the beginning of the end for Gio or can he find a way? The longer the questions remain, the less likely they are to go away for good.

Clear blue skies above Ibrox are not yet on the horizon.
