Following on from all the speculation linking Rangers manager Steven Gerrard with a move for Ianis Hagi – the son of Romanian legend Gheorghe – earlier today, the club confirmed his arrival on a loan spell for the remainder of the season from Belgian side Genk.

The 21-year-old talent has good game time for his age with just over 100 appearances to his name, and he’s also been capped by his country ten times having represented them at all youth age groups.

With Gerrard describing the lad as ‘one of the best talents in Europe’ Rangers fans will certainly be looking forward to seeing him in action, but he will need some time to settle at the club and in a new country.

Gerrard was certainly banging the patient drum, but he clearly has high hopes for his development as we already have a buy option in place for the summer.

“We have to be patient. He will come into the squad with caution. We’re all aware of the name on the back. I’m sure he will continue to do that name very proud, but it’s important people don’t expect his old man to walk through the door and to produce performances like he did in the World Cup, which got me off the couch. Ianis is a player with huge potential so to finally get it done late last night was very pleasing. I’m delighted. We’re talking about one of the best talents in Europe at Under-21 level.”

Despite the call for caution, fans are understandably excited already.
