It’s safe to say that Rangers have had a fractured relationship with BBC Scotland in recent years, the misconception that the public broadcaster had been banned from Ibrox is a mistruth that has been allowed to be pedalled.

The reality is that one reporter indulged in journalistic creativity on too many occasions, ending with his press privileges being revoked – play silly games, win silly prizes and all that.

During the summer we saw a melting of the frosty atmosphere between the two parties though with the BBC being allowed back in to Ibrox to cover games once again, however, old habits die hard.

With Michael Beale announced as Rangers manager, the BBC’s Kheredine Idessane, assumed a favourite spot of Chris McLaughlin, who has spent much of the last ten years reporting from the grassy patch opposite the main stand at Ibrox, and it became pretty clear that he was not alone as he covered the news of our 18th permanent managerial appointment.

Michael Beale’s name could be heard being sung with gusto before the “performer” entered the stage and joined Idessane on camera, not that the presenter could do anything about it that is.

He had every right to be in a celebratory mood given that Beale’s announcement has brought a real lift in the mood around the club. A hint by the chairman of investment in the squad and a manager who seems intent on not just winning but also playing football in a way that will excite fans.

There’s been a dark cloud over the club for a while now, hopefully this won’t be the last time Rangers fans are seen dancing on TV this season.
